MY NAME IS EMILY GLUTU.
I LIVE IN THE UNITED STATES,
BUT MY STORY IN
I GREW UP IN A SMALL VILLAGE
IN KENYA.
WHEN I WAS YOUNG, I GOT UP
EARLY AND FETCHED WATER FROM
A NEARBYSTREAM.
AS I GOT OLDER, I REALIZED
MANY PEOPLE DID NOT HAVE
EASY ACCESS TO WATER.
THIS IS A DRY PLACE.
WATER WAS ABANDONED HERE,
BUT THE RIVERS HAVE RUN
DRY.
AND SOMETIMES THE EARTH IS
ALL THAT FLOWS IN THIS
PLACE.
IN THE BLOWING DUST, IT
LEAVES DEATH IN ITS PATH.
I STAYED FOR A SHORT TIME IN
MORENGA, AND FETCHED WATER
WITH THE OTHER WOMEN.
THE WATER WAS A LONG WAY
OFF, AROUND A DISTANT
MOUNTAIN.
EVERY DAY THE WOMEN OF
MORENGA MADE THIS JOURNEY.
AFTER WE MARRIED, GABRIEL
AND I MOVED TOL UNITED
STATES.
GABRIEL STUDIED AND BECAME A
PASTOR.
LIFE IS EASY IN THE UNITED
STATES.
BUT I HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN
ABOUT THE WOMEN OF HIS
VILLAGE.
WOMEN LIKE ELIZABETH AND
CRISTINA.
Reporter: I WAKE
I WAKE UP 7:00 AND THE
MORNING AND I DON'T GET BACK
HOME UNTIL 11:00.5JÑ HAD A DONKEY, BUT IT
DIED.
NOW I MUST CARRY WATER
MYSELF.
SOMETIMES I HAVE TO GO TWICE
TO GET WATER, AND ON THOSE
DAYS I AM SO TIRED, I CAN DO
NOTHING ELSE.
I'M A TEACHER, BUT I ALSO
HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF MY
HOUSE AND MY FAMILY.
I CAN ONLY TEACH IN THE
MORNING BECAUSE EVERY
AFTERNOON I GO TO THE BASIN
TO GET WATER, AND IT'S
DIRTY.
MANY CHILDREN GET SICK AND
MISS SCHOOL BECAUSE OF
STOMACH INFECTIONS.
WITHOUT WATER, EVEN THE
ANIMALS GET SICK.
IN THE UNITED STATES, I
WORK ON THE CAMPUS OF CBN.
AND I REMEMBER MORENGA.
I JUST STARTED THINKING OF
IF I WAS STILL LIVING THERE
WITH MY KIDS.
AND THEM GETTING SICK.
MY HUSBAND AND I STARTED TO
PRAY AND ASK GOD, HOW CAN WE
BE OF HELP TO OUR VILLAGES?
AND I KNEW IF THEY WOULD GET
CLEAN WATER, PPá WOULD HELP
THEM GIVE THEIR LIVES TO
JESUS.
MY HEART WAS TROUBLED, SO I
FASTED AND PRAYED THAT THE
LORD WOULD SHOW ME THE WAY
TO HELP MY PEOPLE.
AND THEN THE HAND OF GOD
MOVED.
WE WERE SITTING THERE,
HAVING BREAKFAST, AND THIS
PRECIOUS WOMAN CAME, AND WE
STARTED TALKING.
AND THEY WANTED TO KNOW
WHERE I'M FROM.
AND I SAID I'M FROM KENYA.
AND SHE WANTED TO KNOW
WHAT WE WERE DOING THERE,
AND I SAID WE WERE A
MINISTRY THAT BROUGHT WELLS
TO VILLAGES WITHOUT CLEAN
DRINKING WATER.
AND SHE SAID, I'VE BEEN
FASTING AND PRAYING FOR A
WELL FOR MY VILLAGE IN
KENYA.
I SAID, REALLY?
WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE IF WE
CAN DO SOMETHING TO HELP
YOU.
THIS WOMAN I MET, JANET
BAKER, WAS THE HEAD OF A
CHARITY THAT RAISES MONEY SO
CBN CAN DIG WELLS AROUND THE
WORLD.
BUT IN MORENGA, IT IS SO
DRY.
WELLS MIGHT BE HUNDREDS OF
FEET DEEP.
IT SEEMS IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO
DIG A WELL THERE.
AND AS HARD AS IT LOOKED, I
NEEDED A GOD THAT NOTHING IS
HARD FOR HIM.
IN TIME, THE MONEY WASA2"TIU(RáQ" AND THE DEEP WELL WAS
DUG.
GABRIEL GOES BACK TO KENYA
EVERY YEAR TO VISIT A CHURCH
HE STARTED IN MORENGA.
HE WAS THERE WHEN THE WATER
FLOWED FOR THE FIRST TIME.
GOD WANTS TO GIVE YOU THE
LIVING WATER OF EAT TERNAL
LIFE.
THE WELL WAS DEDICATED TO
GOD.
HE TOLD ME STORIES OF THE
CELEBRATION AND THE
REJOICING.
I GOT WATER THREE TIMES
THAT DAY.
WE ARE LAUGHING AND PUSHING
TO SEE WHO WILL BE THE FIRST
TO GET WATER.
I LIKE THE STORY, BUT TO
ME THE PEOPLE SEEMED SO
DISTANT.
NOW, AFTER 12 YEARS IN THE
U.S., I'M RETURNING TO
MORENGA TO SEE THIS MIRACLE
THAT THE LORD HAS DONE.
I DID NOT KNOW WHAT T]
EXPECT WHEN WE ARRIVED IN
THE VILLAGE.
WOULD ANYONE REMEMBER ME?
DID THEY CARE THAT I HAD
COME HOME?
WOULD ANYONE COME TO WELCOME
ME?
I PRAY THAT GOD WILL
BLESS HER, THAT HE WILL JUST
LET HER GET SO EXCITED IN
KNOWING THAT HER
FAITHFULNESS BROUGHT IT ALL
ABOUT.
*
IWAS SO SURPRISED.
I DID NOT KNOW WHETHER TO
DANCE OR CRY.
LIKE, I WISH ALL OF THESE
PEOPLE THAT ARE HERE TO
TODAY, AS MUCH AS THEY'RE
HAPPY ABOUT THIS WATER,
THEY'RE THINKING ABOUT JESUS
TO BE THEIR PERSONAL
SAVIOR.
WHAT A BLESSING.
WATER HAS COME TO A DRY
PLACE.
WE HAVE SEEN A MIRACLE OF
GOD.
I HAVE SO MUCH MORE TIME
NOW.
I MAKE THINGS TO SELL IN THE
MARKETPLACE, AND I HAVE TIME
TO WORK IN THE FIELDS.
OUR ANIMALS ARE HEALTHY
BECAUSE THEY HAVE WATER TO
DRINK.
AND WE CAN ALL GIVE WATER TO
OUR CHILDREN WITHOUT
WORRYING THAT THEY WILL GET
SICK.
GOD IN HEAVEN SENT HER AND
HE GAVEUS THIS WATER
BECAUSE OF HER PRAYERS.
I SPEND A LOT OF TIME
WATERING THE GARDEN NEXT TO
MY HUSBAND'S CHURCH, AND I
TALK TO THE WOMEN OF THE
VILLAGE WHENEVER I CAN.
BUT SOMETIMES I CANNOT HELP
BUT CRY.
IT TAKES A LOT OF TIME TO
MAKE CORNBREAD FOR MY
FAMILY.
JUST SEPARATING THE CORN IS
HARD, BUT I'M HAPPY TO DO
IT.
AND BECAUSE OF THE WATER
WELL, I HAVE THE TIME.
I USED TO THINK ABOUT
WATER, EVEN WHILE I WAS
TEACHING.
AND NOW I CAN FOCUS ON
EDUCATING THE CHILDREN.
I HAVE A LOT MORE ENERGY.
AND I CAN TEACH ALL DAY.
THE CHILDREN ARE HEALTHY AND
DO NOT@%%MM SCHOOL.
TRULY THIS IS A GIFT FROM
GOD.
TODAY THE WOMEN OF
MORENGA ARE WORKING,
DIGGING, PLANTING, AND
WATERING, KNOWING THAT SEEDS
WILL BEAR GOOD FRUITS.
THERE IS A LOT OF LAND
AROUND THE CHURCH.
WE DREAM THAT IN THE FUTURE
THERE WILL BE A CLINIC-HERE.
AND FOR US, A CHRISTIAN HAS
COME TO TEACH THE YOUNG
PEOPLE ABOUT THE WORD OF
GOD.
WHEN I RETURNED HOME TO
THE UNITED STATES, PART OF
MY HEART WILL REMAIN IN
KENYA.
THESEARE MY PEOPLE.
THIS IS MY FAMILY, AND I
LOVE THEM.
I WILL CONTINUE TO PRAY
FOR ELIZABETH, CRISTINA, AND
THE OTHERS.
AND FOR US, GOD WILL WO)
EVEN GREATER MIRACLES HERE.
